Probiotics are living microorganisms that have good effects on health. Drinking milk during pregnancy can reduce pregnancy complications. There are two types of Pregnancy complications, namely preeclampsia and preterm childbirth. Both are associated with high levels of inflammation.

Types of Probiotics

There are many bacteria that can be classified as probiotics. All bacteria have different benefits. But, scientists divide all bacteria into 2 groups, including:

  1. Lactobacillus
    This bacteria are the most common bacteria in probiotic products. We can find it in yogurt or other fermented foods. Some bacteria in this group has other function. For example, they can help people who suffer from lactose intolerance.
  2. Bifidobacterium
    According to researchers, drink probiotic milk during pregnancy have a lower risk than those has not drink it.
    Research divide pregnant women into three groups. First group, 23 percent of women in the study drank probiotic milk before pregnancy. Seconds group, around 38 percent drank it early in pregnancy. The Last group, 32 percent consumed probiotic milk during late pregnancy. It is said, mothers drink about 1.5 cups per day of milk products that contain active bacteria.
    The results are, the third group had a 20 percent reduced risk of developing preeclampsia, compared to those who did not drink probiotic milk.
    There are good relations between probiotic milk intake at the end of pregnancy and lower risk of preeclampsia. Bacteria in probiotics can help reduce inflammation in the body. Therefore, this condition has the potential to reduce the risk of pregnancy complications. Besides, probiotics can also reduced high blood pressure and protein in the urine that usually occurs in the third trimester.
    In theory, probiotics can influence the risk of preeclampsia by boosting the immune system. Even so, until now no one knows the most appropriate way to prevent pregnancy complications. Therefore, experts strongly recommend that pregnant women routinely carry out regular checks.
    Probiotics are products that are safe for consumption by everyone. Even so, people with immune system problems or have serious health problems cannot consume probiotic products.
    In some cases, side effects when consuming probiotic products are stomach ache, diarrhea, flatulence, and gassing for several days when you start consuming probiotic products. Probiotics can also cause allergies. If you experience these things, stop consuming probiotic foods and discuss with your doctor immediately.
